Ghana to get unified competitions calendar

Published on: 23 July 2012

The Glo Premier League will be the last local competition to finish in Ghana from next season.

The second tier league, the Division One League (DOL), will conclude before the top-flight competition finishes.

The country's MTN FA Cup matches will also be concluded before the end of the season to ensure enough resting period players at the end of the season.

The DOL is currently being played two months after the Glo Premier league ended.

This means clubs who gain promotion from the DOL will have little time to prepare for life in the top-flight.

This has drawn some criticism from fans who think the local league's calendar is not organised.

But the Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi says action has been taken to ensure that the top-flight league will be the last to end from next season.

"We decided that the league will start on 7th October and few weeks later the DOL will also start," Nyantakyi said.

"The MTN FA Cup will also start around that time so that the Premier League will be the last to end the season's calendar.

"Litigations and disputes affected the end of some leagues like the DOL.

"So we will make sure that the Glo Premier League will be the last of our competition to end in our calendar for next season."
