Ghana's final 23-man squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations will be announced on Wednesday at 17:00 GMT.

The decision of who will be dropped from the provisional 24-man squad was taken at a Black Stars technical meeting in the afternoon at the team's training camp in the UAE.

The announcement has however been deferred until after the side's final training session at 9pm in Abu Dhabi.

Coach Akwasi Appiah and the rest of his backroom staff will break the news to the players after the evening’s session expected to be tensed.

The announcement will come way within the midnight deadline of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the submission of the final squads for the tournament being hosted by South Africa.

It is now confirmed the cut will come from the central defensive area – the most saturated in the squad in terms of the numbers.

In that case, South Africa-based Awal Mohammed and Asante Kotoko defender Rashid Sumaila are deemed the players running the highest risk of being sent home.

There are however hints of surprise exclusion but coach Akwasi Appiah is holding his cards very close to his chest until he meets his players this evening.

The Black Stars will engage Egypt in a warm up game on Thursday before facing Tunisia in another friendly three days later.

The team is then expected to arrive in South Africa on January 16 – four days before facing DR Congo in the opening Group B match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.
