Black Stars to play SA side Platinum Stars in pre-AFCON friendly

Ghana will play South African top flight side Platinum Stars in a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations warm-up match on 18 January.

The match will be played at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace as the Black Stars trim the rough edges in South Africa for the continental showpiece.

Ghana will begin camping in Rustenburg on 7 January where the provisional 25-man squad will be cut down to 23 for the tournament.

Platinum Stars coach Owen Da Gama says the friendly match against the Black Stars will toughen his side for the second half of the Premier Soccer League season.

"When I was asked about my feelings towards playing against Ghana, I jumped at the opportunity because this does not happen every day," Da Gama told Kickoff.com.

"They (Ghana) are preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations and we are very happy to be assisting them.

"We will also be preparing for the second half of the season so the match will be very important to us. We will hold some training sessions first before facing them," he adds.

"I can assure you that it will not be a one sided match. Ghana are a very good side but we will give them very stiff opposition," adds the well travelled coach.

Ghana have confirmed they will play giants Kaizer Chiefs on 12 January before engaging Bafana Bafana three days later.
