Ghana to play Tunisia in friendly before Africa Cup of Nations

Published on: 20 November 2012

Ghana will play Tunisia in a pre-2013 Africa Cup of Nations friendly match next year, the Ghana FA has announced.

The Black Stars will test their preparedness for the tournament against the Carthage Eagles on in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on 13 January.

"As part of our preparations for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations we have agreed to play Tunisia in a friendly in January," GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi said in a press statement.

"The match will be played in Abu Dhabi where Ghana will be camping for the tournament.

"We want to leave no stone unturned in our preparation so a match against one of the top sides in Africa like Tunisia will give the Black Stars the needed test for the Nations Cup."

Ghana will camp in Abu Dhabi from 7-16 January.

The four-time African champions are Group alongside DR Congo, Mali and Niger for the 19 January to February 10 finals in South Africa.

@Papa Nkruma, thanks for your advise, it shows that there are good mature Ghanaians on the site. To be frank people, i hate our group for WC. it was going to be better if Ghana and Zambia were in different groups so that both teams go to WC. the truth is both teams deserve to go to WC. we just have 3 teams which are doing fine in Africa now and these are Ghana, Zambia and Ivory Coast. If these 3 could go to Brazil, then Africa would have good representation. @junior mafia Jacob Musings is 28 yrs but majority of Symbian players are below 23 yrs, just have a close look of them. Actually Zambia is the team leading with a lot of young players. Sinkala 19, Chisamba 20, Mbola 19, Mayuka 21, There is a new boy Mukuka who will be introduced in SA and he is 19, Kangwa 20. But Ghana has young players too. I fear for I. coast, there team will be a shadow very soon but not Ghana and Zambia. We have serious arguments with Ghanaians who are here in Zambia and it is nice to argue with bros.

Come on guys. Please ease up on the insults. It's frankly disturbing and unpalatable. Remember most Ghanaians supported Zambia against Ivory Coast so that does not make us enemies. And the same advice goes to all Zambians who have been using this site

GFA, U ARE PLAYING TUNISIA ON THE 13 AND THE TOURNEY STARTS ON THE 19. DO U THINK THIS IS SENSIBLE? 6 DAYS BEFORE THE TOURNAMNT? FIND A SOME LOCAL CLUB/MIDDLE EAST NATION N PLAY THEM INSTEAD. PLAYING TUNISA IS USELESS. HOW WILL PLAYERS RECOVER IN TIME FOR THE AFCON TOURNEY SHOULD THEY GET INJURED?

@Junior Mafia, yes its mulenga now, our best striker who missed afcon 2012 due to injury. we do not mention mayuka in Zambia because he makes Ghanaians sick if you mention him. mayuka and Mulenga will be partners in armed robbery at AFCON 2013 in SA. Please we can only meet I coast in qter final and not semis. Semis it will be Ghana no matter how thick your hidding place will be, Zambia will get you. just continue saying bra bra bra with you shadow team of under achievers. for Ryan to score one goal,he needs ten chances but mayuka its one chance, one goal. No hidding place for you, Zambia will fire live bullet for you. just one will be enough.

@Frank Nonde, Ghana can not agree to play Zambia the mighty Chipolopolo. They know that we might meet them in semis in SA but they forget that they can't keep bidding from the copper bullet forever. it will find them nomattrr how thick their bidding place is. This time, its Jacob Mulenga who will break their hearts.

GHANA SHOULD PLAY ZAMBIA IN A FRIENDLY GAME. AFTER ALL THEY ARE THE AFCON DEFENDING CHAMPIONS. THEY WILL GIVE GHANA GOOD TRAINING THAN TUNISIA.

U are playing tunisia dats gud but that doesn't make u get past group stage and even if u get past group stage and when we meet in d semi-final we will do dat usual 1 goal project 4 u and u we go 4 ur normal 4th place .

Operation drop Derek Boateng and bring Quincy on.Boateng is a waste of time. He's always passing the ball to an opponent and passing the ball backwards. What kind of palyer is this.AA hope u can drop him somewhere, for real he's just occupying space.

I agree with Papa Nkrumah!! This match should have been arranged between 9-11 to have enough room for recovery in case of injuries for both sides. Anyway, BS play it cool when you meet them.

Tunisia is a very good test but my worry is why we choose to play them less than a week to the tournament. Couldn't we play them early January so that we have room and time to recover in case of injury? We must remember how physical they were the last time we played them.
