Ghana Under-23 coach Akwasi Appiah has blamed Wednesday’s defeat to South Africa to his team’s inability to convert the numerous scoring chances.

The Black Meteors suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Amagluglug in their first game of the ongoing All Africa Games and must now win their final match against Mozambique to be assured of progression.

“We failed to convert the numerous chances especially in the first half where we could have scored two or three goals,” he said.

“I think the boys did well but then the only thing missing was the finishing. South Africa got a lucky break with their only opportunity in our danger area and fortunately for them they scored.”

Appiah however hopes this deficiency can be cured in time before Saturday’s crucial game and is very well aware of challenges faced when playing against tournament hosts.

“It is always difficult paying against the host nation, while playing against the crowd, sometimes you could also be playing against the referee.

“But I am sure we will be able to cope with that, we only have to keep our concentration throughout the 90minutes and I am sure we will be fine,” he added.
