Ghana made a losing start to their All Africa Games campaign with a disappointing 1-0 reverse against South Africa on Wednesday.

A solitary second half strike was enough to see the Amagluglug book their second successive victory which now qualifies them to the semis.

The disappointing result thus means the Black Meteors will have to win their final group game against tournament hosts, Mozambique to qualify as group runners-up this weekend.

The team had been plagued with series of withdrawals of influential players who hitherto were going to form the core of the side during their preparations in Accra.

The situation got even worse a few days to the start of the competition with injuries to Ben Acheampong and Malik Akowuah.

Ghana was made to join the make-shift group of three after a ballot following the withdrawals of Libya and Madagascar.

The team was originally billed to play Cameroon, Senegal and Uganda in Group B but is now paired in Group A as a result of the withdrawals.
