Ghana’s U17 beat hosts Namibia 2-1 on Thursday night for their second straight win to reach the final of the four-nation tournament.

The Baby Warriors came into their encounter against the more physically superior Black Starlets at the Swakopmund Sports Complex as underdogs but matched the West Africans with their very pressing and combat game.

Namibia got the lead midway through the first half though winger Hiha Katjivena who pounced on a ball from a corner kick and they went into the break with their noses in front.

After the break, Namibia continued to defend and attack in numbers but Ghana’s pace and strength ensured they were outwitted.

The Black Starlets equalized through Henry Medarious, who scored from close range from corner kick around the hour-mark.

Namibia had captain and goalkeeper Donovan Gainub to thank for pulling some great saves to deny Ghana the lead.

But the hosts were made to pay minutes later when substitute Kofi Amoakoa scored from inside the box after the Namibia defence failed to clear a corner kick.

Ghana leads the points table by six points, followed by Westphalia on three points and Namibia on one, the same as South Africa but with a better goal-difference.

On Friday, Ghana will look to finish the group on maximum points as they play South Africa and hosts Namibia will look to cause a major upset against Westphalia and book a final against Ghana on Sunday.

Westphalia can secure their final berth with a draw against the hosts.
