Ghana U23 captain Lawrence Lartey is confident the Black Meteors will defeat Nigeria on Wednesday when they clash with the Dream Team at the All-African Games in Congo.

The Black Meteors are playing their second group game in the group phase of the competition after playing out to a goalless draw with Senegal in their opening game on Sunday.

Ghana, the defending champions, will have to secure victory over the Nigerians to be able to secure their place in the knock-out phase of the competition.

Lartey is expecting his side to triumph over the Nigerians even though he expects victory over the Dream Team.

“It was not the kind of result we expected against Senegal. But we didn’t lose, we drew so we still have another chance,” Lartey told Peace FM.

“Everyone knows that games between Ghana and Nigeria are always difficult but we will do our best to win and qualify.

“That is the only chance we have now, so we will do everything possible to win the game.”

Ghana played out a goalless draw with Senegal in the first game of the group while Nigeria did not feature on the first day because their first opponent, Egypt, withdrew from the competition. The two perennial West African rivals have met at U-23 level four times, with Nigeria claiming two victories (July 2007, July 2011) and a draw over Ghana’s lone victory (July 2011).
