Swansea City attacker Andre Dede Ayew could captain the Black Stars in the friendly against Canada if captain Asamoah Gyan does not recover in time after sustaining a hamstring injury last Saturday.

The Black Stars striker limped off during Shanghai SIPG’s 3-0 defeat to Guangzhou Evergrande in the Chinese Super League when the game was only eighteen minutes old.

He could thus miss next month’s international friendly against Canada in Washington as he will require not less than three weeks to recover fully from the injury.

Andre Ayew could hence lead the team in the game against Canada on October 13.

The Black Stars captain missed the country’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda after sustaining a knock on his knee but seems to have aggravated the problem during the Chinese Super League game.

Andre Ayew captained the Black Stars in the game against Rwanda in Kigali and will be expected to take up the mantle once again if the former Sunderland attacker fails to recuperate before the 13th of October.
