Captain fantastic Albert Adomah said it was a ââ¬Ågreat privilegeâ⬠to be given the Boro armband in last nightââ¬â¢s 3-1 win at Oldham Athletic.
The winger was given the responsibility with club captain Grant Leadbitter and deputy George Friend both named on the substitutes bench for the Capital One Cup tie.
Adomah, who also briefly wore the captainââ¬â¢s armband in the pre-season win at Barnsley, was delighted to maintain his 100% winning record as skipper - and thanked Aitor Karanka for the gesture.
ââ¬ÅIt was a great privilege to be captain of Boro, I never pictured it,â⬠Adomah said.
ââ¬ÅBefore the (pre-match) meeting the manager said (to me) ââ¬Ëcaptainââ¬â¢, and I went ââ¬Ëcaptain?! Whereââ¬â¢s the vice-captain?ââ¬â¢
ââ¬ÅObviously the vice-captain (George Friend) wasnââ¬â¢t on the pitch so it was a privilege, and I think because I was the oldest player I got it, which was great. ââ¬ÅIt means something and it shows respect from the manager, and I appreciate it.
ââ¬ÅI was captain at Barnsley for five minutes and we won that, so now itââ¬â¢s two in two!
ââ¬ÅLast season we did well in the cup, we happened to play Oldham and beat them - so hopefully we can follow on from last season and go even further this year.
ââ¬ÅItââ¬â¢s always important to win the game, and this is the first game weââ¬â¢ve won, so hopefully we can take it into the weekend (against Bolton). Adomah was part of an attacking quartet that put the League One Latics to the sword, with Yanic Wildschut, Diego Fabbrini and Cristhian Stuani also catching the eye.
Wildschut opened the scoring before ã3.6m signing Stuani netted a brace on his first Boro start.
The teamââ¬â¢s cutting edge in the final third was refreshing to see, four days after Boro started their new Championship campaign with a 0-0 stalemate at Preston.
And Adomah has already set his sights on achieving automatic promotion in the league this season, after last seasonââ¬â¢s play-off final heartache.
ââ¬ÅIt was a shame (at Preston) but thatââ¬â¢s the past, weââ¬â¢re not thinking about that now. Weââ¬â¢ve scored three (tonight) so hopefully at the weekend at home we can score more, or just score one and win. Thatââ¬â¢s the aim - to win the game.
ââ¬ÅThe expectation will be there as we did well last season, it was a shame we fell at the last hurdle but hopefully this year we can go one step further and get promotion.
ââ¬ÅBut itââ¬â¢s too early to talk about that right now, we have to take it game by game, we have 45 league games to go and hopefully we just need to win more games and get automatic (promotion).
