Ghana winger Christian Atsu has been given permission by Chelsea to speak to Sunderland over a possible loan move, according English media reports.

The 22-year-old is on a hunt for a new club after he was excluded from Chelsea’s pre-season plans by manager Jose Mourinho.

Atsu signed for the English giants last summer from FC Porto but was immediately loaned out to Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem.

The Ghana international reported to Stamford Bridge for pre-season training but was told he will be better off with another loan move elsewhere.

He was reported to be close to joining Everton on loan following the Toffees’ capture of Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku in a permanent swoop.

But the ex Rio Ave loanee according to Sky Sports has been given permission to speak to Sunderland.

The Black Cats appear to have reached an agreement with the Blues for the young Ghanian winger.

Atsu will now have to sort out personal terms before eventually signing for Gus Poyet’s side.
