Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris will play under new coach Murat Yakin if he decides to return to Russian side Spartak Moscow.

Waris was signed by the dismissed Valery Karpin from Swedish top-flight side Hacken last summer.

But after lacking regular playing time, the 22-year-old was loaned out to relegated French Ligue 1 side Valenciennes.

Waris’ nine goals in 16 appearances have made him target for many European sides including Newcastle.

Yakin, Spartak appoints its fifth foreign coach in the last 10 years, and one with a record of success.

The former Switzerland international took Basel to the Swiss title in the last two seasons, and achieved two Champions League wins over Chelsea.

Spartak ended last season in sixth place, its worst result since 2008.
