Ghana youth Wakaso rewarded new Villarreal deal

Midfielder Mubarak Wakaso has signed a new three-year deal as a senior team player of Spanish side Villarreal, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The 20-year-old joined the team B of the Yellow Submarines this January on a three-and-a half year deal after leaving Spanish second-tier side Elche over unpaid wages.

But the exceptional qualities of the Ghana youth international earned him a quick promotion to the first team by head coach Juan Carlos Garrido.

The AshantiGold graduate will get better wages and assurance of more playing time.

"It's refreshing to get this contract. Allah helped me to work hard for this deal. I now know I have a future at this great club," a relaxed Wakaso told GHANAsoccernet.com.

"This means my only concentration will be with the senior team and not be shuttling from the team B and the first team," he added.

"I look ahead to more big things at the club this season and just praying that things go my way."

Wakaso made cameo appearances in Villarreal's semi-final berth of last season's Uefa Europa League and fourth place finish in the La Liga.

He was an unused substitute last week when the club beat Danish Odense to qualify to the Group stage of this season's Uefa Champions League.

Villarreal's La Liga campaign this season begins at champions Barcelona on Monday night.

The left-footed middle man played in Ghana first leg 3-1 defeat to Nigeria in the final All Africa Games qualifier last month.
