South African Premier side Bidvest Wits have parted ways with Ghanaian-born Niger defender Kofi Dankwa after just a season with the club.
The centre-back cum holding midfielder joined "The Clever Boys" after the impressing at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
Dankwa, formerly of Tunisian side Esperance Sportive de Zarzis, is said to have failed to impress.
ââ¬ÅWe didnââ¬â¢t exercise the option because for a foreign player we felt he didnââ¬â¢t do enough in the team,â⬠Wits CEO Jose Ferreira explained to KickOff.com about the playerââ¬â¢s departure.
ââ¬ÅWe were happy about him as a player but the fact that he is a foreign player left us with no option but to not take up the option on his contract.
ââ¬ÅA foreign player must always play. He is not coming back to us.ââ¬
Dankwa made 12 appearances for Wits last season in the Premier Soccer League.
He was born in Ghana to Ghanaian parents but decided to naturalize for Niger.
