Ghanaian clubs won't win points for protesting over jerseys

As part of the measures to clamp down on rampant protest in the Ghana league, clubs won't win points for protesting over the wrong use of jerseys.

Offending clubs will lose points but it won't be credited to the protesting club.

This is part of a raft of proposed new regulations to minimise the frequent litigation in the Ghana league that disrupts the calendar.

Clubs previously gained points if their opponents wear jerseys they have not registered with the GFA for the league season.

This led to complaints that some clubs unfairly gain points, diminishing the competitive spirit in the league.

Some of these laws are blamed for the lack of interest in the local league which has prompted the GFA to act.

"We are amending our regulations on the requirement for the registration of jerseys," Ghana FA chief Kwesi Nyantakyi said.

"It used to be just colours and that generated some of controversy even with clubs losing points.

"Now we will be using strips. That will require a pictorial presentation of what teams will be wearing for home and away matches.

"These distinct colours must be worn for either home or away matches. So a schedule will be drawn for jerseys to stop the incidents of protests because of jerseys.

"Crucially protesting clubs won't win points for protesting over jerseys. The points will be deducted but it will not be credited to the protesting clubs.

"We want to stop the case of clubs winning points in the boardroom instead of the pitch."

The new laws will be tabled before Congress in September for approval.

The Ghana Premier League will start on 7 October.
