Ghanaian defender Appiah handed clearance from South Africa's Cosmos

South African side Jomo Cosmos have handed their Ghanaian defender Ofosu Appiah his clearance to continue with his career elsewhere.

The Ghanaian was not registered with the NFD side this season following alleged claims of his late arrival from his country.

The player had confirmed his unhappiness about the situation at Cosmos before leaving the side.

When the season started Appiah was hoping for his inclusion to the Ghana national team for the Africa Cup of Nations.

A source close to Appiah confirmed that the player is training on his own while weighing his options on his next destination.

“We received the clearance from Cosmos although there was a lot of talking after we got it. Apparently, there are people that were not happy when we got the clearance," the source said.

"There is interest in the player already and it seems that it will increase now that he is a free agent.

"It is our wish to get him a club soon because the plan was to see him getting a call-up to the national team.

"I can confirm that Black Leopards are interested,” said the source.

Leopards’ need to strengthen the defence was evident when the side conceded a whopping four goals against Orlando Pirates recently, despite goalkeeper Azwindini Maphaha’s heroic efforts.

Appiah was recently training at SuperSport United but has since stopped.
