German-born Ghanaian defender Marcel Appiah has confirmed he is set for a return to newly-promoted Dutch Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen.

The 27-year-old has agreed to return to Nijmegen on a season's contract after he left the club at the end of last season.

"I'm discussing with NEC now and it is likely I will sign a one-year-contract and play in the Eredivisie," he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

Bulgarian side Levksi Sofia were keen on signing the versatile defender but he showed little interest in switching to the Balkan nation.

Appiah contributed hugely to NEC's promotion campaign playing in 27 games and the club has decided to reward him with a contract to play in the Dutch top-flight.

He has declared his interest in playing for Ghana.
