Maritzburg United defender, Mohammed Awal, has joined the club for pre-season training after initially being delayed upon his return from the off-season break.

The highly-valued Ghanaian did not initially rejoin the squad when they resumed training last week, however it has since been confirmed that the Accra-born star is now back in the fold for the Team of Choice.

The 26-year-old has caught the eye during his time in Pietermaritzburg, and it has often led to speculation that a move to a big club might be in the offing in the near future.

Nonetheless, it appears the Ghana international is committed to Maritzburg at least for the 2014/15 campaign.

Awal, who made his debut for his country in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, is now back at training as the club get ready for the new season under the watchful eye of coach, Steve Komphela.

Team Manager, Quintin Jettoo, explained there was nothing suspicious about Awal’s late return.

He explained that a bout of flu was the reason for his late arrival to pre-season training. Jettoo said, “He is now healed and ready to start training as the club prepares for the new season.”
