Ghanaian duo Awal and Yakubu Mohammed will be working under a new coach at Maritzburg United following the appointment of Steve Komphela.

The 46-year-old takes over from Clint Larsen who was in charge for just eight games.

The KwaZulu-Natal club have struggled to regain the form that made them formidable in the South African top flight since the departure of Ernst Middendorp last October.

The ex South Africa international has signed a two-year contract to steer the team of choice from their current relegation threatened position.

And Ghana defender Awal Mohammed has expressed his preparedness to work with the new coach in restoring the club to its glory days.

“[Steve] Komphela is a good coach and I am looking forward to working with him,” Awal Mohammed said.

The Team of Choice are currently just a place above the relegation playoff zone on goal difference.

The new coach has already started work with his new side and will play his first game when Maritzburg travel to face Pretoria University when the South African top flight resumes.
