Several Ghanaian players will return to action in the UEFA Europa League with their clubs as the second round of group matches in Europe's second tier club competition are played on Thursday.

Despite being the second class competition in Europe, football fans in Ghana are keenly following the competition not just because of the interest in a the high number of Ghanaian footballers in the competition but also local punters are seeking to cash in.

The odds for this week's matches in UEFA's second tier club  are of immense interest to Ghanaian football fans who are seeking to take the chance with Europa League betting at William Hill offering one of the most competitive odds on the market.

But the primary interest is in the players who are seeking to impress in the Europa League and gain national team call-ups.

In the first round of matches played two weeks ago,  Ghanaian players enjoyed mixed results with Sion’s Ebenezer Assifuah being one of the few to record a victory on the night.

Assifuah, who started and lasted 68 minutes as his Sion side raced to a 2-1 victory over Russian side Rubin Kazan, is expected to play a part as they travel to Liverpool to face the English side in their clash at Anfield.

The Alpine outfit however lost 1-0 at the weekend to Vaduz, who played almost the whole second half with ten men, a second straight league loss for the Swiss fifth placed side after four wins.

The Reds drew 1-1 at Bordeaux in their Europa opener, conceding a late goal after dominating and their match with Sion is expected to as exciting as their previous match with Liverpool fancied to emerge victorious.

Another Ghanaian in the competition is youngster Abdul Aziz Tetteh of Polish side Lech Poznan who take on Swiss club Basel.

Tetteh, who joined the Poznan side this summer from Greek club Platanias, was an unused substitute when they played out a 0-0 draw at home to Portuguese outfit Belenenses in their first match in Group I.

The midfielder will be seeking an improved playing fortune as Basel and Lech Poznan will need no introduction as the sides met in UEFA Champions League qualifying this season.

Daniel Opare, who was missing in action for his German club Augsburg as they fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Spanish side Athletic Bilbao in their first group game, is expected to continue with his absence as he is yet to regain full fitness after recovering from injury.

Spain-born Ghanaian Inaki Williams, who was missing from Bilbao's previous match is in the travelling party for Thursday's visit to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar and he is hoping to be handed game time.

AZ have scored twice in each of their five UEFA Europa League games this season but that need not be a daunting statistic for Group L visitors Athletic Club.

AZ Alkmaar have been oddly consistent in UEFA Europa League games this season, with Athletic Club coming to the Netherlands in search of a rare away victory in Group L. Dutch-born Ghanaian youth defender Derrick Luckassen , who warmed the bench for AZ Alkmaar, in their previous match is not expected to start the game.

Frank Acheanpong was introduced in the second half but his Anderlecht side were held to a 1-1 drawn game by French giants Monaco.

Ghanaian winger Frank Acheampong's form is what Anderlecht will be counting on when they travel to Baku to face Qarabag. The home side's record in Baku and Anderlecht's recent form on the road suggest that the sides' UEFA Europa League Group J encounter may not go with form.

Qarabag may be underdogs on paper as they welcome RSC Anderlecht in UEFA Europa League Group J, but the Azerbaijani champions' home record suggests they will be no pushovers in Baku.
