Ghanaian giants Kotoko blast Medeama over fans attack, labels it primitive

Kotoko have issued a strongly- worded statement on the barbaric attack on their officials by irate Medeama supporters during Sunday’s Premier League game in Tarkwa.

The club’s National Circles chairman Kwaku Amponsah and NCC deputy PRO Twum Barimah were physically assaulted by thugs and bundled out of the stadium during an entertaining 0-0 stalemate at the Tarkwa and Aboso Park.

The club has been incensed by the latest act of violence and has issued a strongly-worded statement to condemn the heinous crime.

“We are putting on record that, this is not the first time Medeama have visited such disgusting treatment to Kotoko. In the 2012/13 season, Jerome Otchere and Bernard Nyankomago of Kotoko Express were similarly bundled out of the Park despite being accredited by the GFA,” part of the statement read.

“It took the intervention of then Communications Manager of Medeama, Ebenezer Aidoo to ensure the safety of the two Kotoko journalists at the T&A Park. Last season, the Organiser of Kotoko Tarkwa Warriors, Abdul Kadri Musa was also prevented from watching Kotoko’s league match with Medeama at the same venue on grounds that, he had juju on him.

“The lawlessness at the T&A Park makes mockery of the GFA’s effort to rid the domestic league of violence. While we share pain of our Board member and supporters’ PRO, we are bringing the GFA’s notice to the brazen acts of violence at the T&A Park immediate action.”

The statement adds: “The management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club is shocked by the unsporting and primitive treatment meted to the club’s Board member and National Circles Council (NCC) Chairman, Kwaku Amponsah and the NCC’s deputy PRO, Twum Barimah at the T&A Park.

“The two Kotoko personalities were beaten mercilessly and bundled out of the Park on Sunday, July 5, 2015 when Kotoko reported for the match day 21; 2014/15 First Capital Plus Premier League fixture. The action by Medeama’s hooligans – about 10 of them was based on their bogus suspicion that, the Kotoko men had juju on them.”

The two clubs have been trading accusations since the episode broke out on Sunday.
