Ghanaian media want spiritual solution for Essien injuries

Some Ghanaian sports journalists have asked Michael Essien to seek a spiritual solution to his recent spate of injuries.

The Chelsea star suffered his third serious knee in as many years last week which has sparked concerns over his future in Ghana.

But many in the country believe that these 'mysterious' injuries have been designed spiritually by his 'enemies' or 'competitors' to end the midfielder's career.

Essien will be out of action for the next six months after undergoing surgery to repair a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus.

But the spate of injuries to the Ghana powerhouse has prompted journalists in his country to ask him to look to the spiritual realm to end his problems.

After undergoing surgeries on the knee problem without conclusively solving the problem, the journalists believe there is more to Essien problems.

Speaking on Asempa FM, panelists unanimously agreed that the Chelsea star must return to Ghana to seek a spiritual solution to his problems.

Ghana's version of Jose Mourinho, Isaac Boateng, summed up the country's feelings about Essien’s injury but cautioned him about the sort of treatment he takes on the knee.

"I am devastated by the news of Essien and I think it is the feeling of every Ghanaian about this injury for our beloved Essien," Boateng said.

"He has tried several treatments on this knee in the whiteman's land now is the time for him to come home for treatment.

"These injuries are too much and we cannot rule out the spiritual angle. We are Africans therefore Essien must listen to this advice carefully and take action."

Kobby Jones agreed with Boateng's view insisting Essien must emulate Didier Drogba who went to Ivory Coast for 'consultations' when he suffered his knee injury.

"Essien must not sit down and think that anything that happens, happens for no reason. He must come home and ask elders to find a proper sure for these mysterious injuries," Jones said.

"When Drogba had his injury he went home and since he came back he has not had an issue with this injury again. Essien must look for a solution.

"His parents must stop sleeping and wake up and find a solution for it. It could be anything. He is too young, too strong for this to be happening to him."

Essien was ruled out for more than six months from September 2008 after rupturing the same anterior cruciate ligament while playing for Ghana against Libya.

He missed seven months last year after tearing the medial ligament in his left knee while training ahead of the African Cup of Nations.

That injury kept him out of the summer's World Cup finals and eventually required four operations.

Do you think Essien should seek a spiritual solution to knee injury problems?

Do you think he should continue to undergo surgeries to solve the problem?
