Bournemouth winger Christian Atsu has been named in the Cherries' 25-man squad for the first half of the English Premier League season.

The Ghana international was signed from Chelsea on loan this summer with big prospects.

But the silky midfielder is yet to hit his best form for the Cherries which prompted fears that he could be excluded from the squad.

However, he has been named while top players Maxi Gradel and Tyrone Mings have been left out because of are both lengthy spells on the sidelines because of injuries.

Gradel and Mings sustained knee injuries during Bournemouth's 1-1 draw with Leicester on Saturday but the lengthy spell on the sidelines means they were not included when the final list to the Premier League.

Atsu joined Bournemouth after being named the best player at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations and he is expected to continue with the excellent form at the club.

Top-flight clubs had until 4pm yesterday to register their updated squad lists which had to include no more than 17 players who do not fulfil the home grown player criteria.

The remainder of the squad - up to a total of 25 - had to be home grown, having been registered with any club affiliated to the FA for three years prior to their 21st birthday.
