German-born Ghanaian international midfielder Reinhold Yabo granted Karlsruher the lead in their second-leg play-off clash with giants Hamburg SV but saw his side slip away to a 2-1 defeat and missed out of Bundesliga for next season.

After a 1-1 draw in last Thursday’s first-leg in Hamburg, Karlsruhe had taken the lead at their sold-out Wildpark stadium when substitute Yabo scored a 78th-minute goal to put the host 2-1 ahead.

Hennings chipped a pass into the box directly into the path of Yabo, who appeared free inside the box and finished off brilliant to send the host ahead.

But Karlsruher allowed Hamburg to crawl back into the game and snatch a 2-1 victory to retain their status in the Bundesliga.
