Joe Dodoo

Hats off to man of the week Joe Dodoo, who became only the third player in the history of Leicester City to score a debut hat-trick in Tuesday night's League Cup victory at Bury.

His first goal, where he lifted the ball over the left-back before volleying it in off the crossbar, was a spectacular early contender for goal of the season.

The 20-year-old's second had a hint of offside about it, which caused an angry mob to gather behind the linesman, and his third was generously set up by Jeff Schlupp, who happens to be the last City player to score a hat-trick on his debut.

Between his second and third goals, Dodoo also showed evidence of a wise head on young shoulders.

After having a drink thrown over him by the aforementioned angry gathering, Liam Moore looked to be heading for a confrontation when Dodoo wrestled him away.

His interviews since his magic night have shown him to be a decent, grounded lad, and it is good to see his dedication rewarded.

As a 13-year-old, he had to get a train and a bus from Nottingham to get to City's academy.

Let's hope that, like Jeff Schlupp before him, he can find a way into the first-team set-up.

It would be good to see that City was still a club where you could make it through the youth ranks, despite the greatly-increased spending power.

Claudio Ranieri's decision to change his entire side for the trip to Bury turned out to be a wise one, and also showed how much progress the club has made.
