The Referee Association of Ghana (RAG) have resolved to withdraw their services in lower tier league matches until their security at matches are guaranteed.
Attacks on match officials in lower tier league matches has been on the rise in the past weeks with referee Kwame Kyei Andoh dying days after suffering severe beatings while on duty.
Kyei Andohââ¬â¢s death did little to minimize the spate of attack on match officials as referee Ali Alhassan also came under fans attack in a second tier league match over the weekend.
The refereeââ¬â¢s association now want to suspend their services for the lower tier leagues until security for their members are guaranteed by the Ghana FA.
The association will be meeting with officials of the Ghana on Friday to make this position official.
ââ¬ÅWe will be meeting the FA on Friday but until measures are put in place for our safety we have decided to postpone offering our services,â⬠RAG chairman Alex Quartey said.
The Ghana FA meanwhile are waiting on the official autopsy report on the death of referee Kwame Kyei Andoh before taking further action on the assault case.
