Ghana striker Prince Tagoe has lashed at fans who criticized his performance at the 2010 World Cup â⬓ describing skeptics as ââ¬Ëunfaithfulââ¬â¢.
The 27-year-old is currently claiming a free agent status after terminating his contract with Tunisian side Club Africain over unpaid wages.
Tagoe failed to score for Ghana during the 2010 World Cup â⬓ having helped with his goals to qualify the Black Stars for the tournament staged in South Africa.
But the former Hoffenheim hitman was predominantly deployed to operate from the wings to support lead striker Asamoah Gyan under then coach Milovan Rajevac at the World Cup.
Many have pointed to Tagoeââ¬â¢s barren run in South Africa as one of the reasons he does not deserve a return to the Black Stars even when he starts playing regularly at club level.
But the former Bursaspor striker in his response claims his goalscoring prowess were limited due to the role he played at the World Cup for which he described his critics as ââ¬Ëunfaithfulââ¬â¢.
ââ¬ÅTo be honest, Ghanaians have never been faithful,â⬠he told GHANAsoccernet.com.
ââ¬ÅThey love football, they understand football, they know who Prince [Tagoe] is so when Prince is not doing what he is supposed to do they have the right to talk, its normal.
ââ¬ÅBut ask yourself, why was it so? Go back and watch the Serbian game and analyze it.
ââ¬ÅDuring the qualification â⬓ players like Essien, Sulley [Muntari], Mathew Amoah, [Junior] Agogo helped the team to qualify because Asamoah [Gyan] was injured.
ââ¬ÅSo when you go to the World Cup and you have a bad tournament, it doesnââ¬â¢t mean you are finished.
ââ¬ÅI wasnââ¬â¢t played in the position to score but people didnââ¬â¢t understand this.ââ¬
