Ghanaian striker Derek Asamoah is finalising a deal to join English side Carlisle United for the start of pre-season training today.

The Blues were negotiating a fresh deal with the former Ghana international and could be close to an agreement with veteran attacker who played at the club last season.

While Asamoah tries to thrash out a new contract with United, the club has signed five new players so far this summer to boost the squad.

While Carlisle are understood to be eyeing more signings, the Blues have confirmed that 34-year-old Asamoah was close to agreeing a new contract.

United’s head of football operations Lee Dykes said they have been negotiating the deal for some time.

“We’re finalising a few details. We see Derek as a very important player for Carlisle United next season,” Dykes said.
