Ghanaian supporters obtain visas to support Black Stars at 2013 AFCON

Several Ghanaian football fans have secured visas to travel to South Africa to support the Black Stars at the 2013 Nations Cup.

This means Ghana will not be short on support by the time the tournament kicks off on January 19.

Most of the supporters unions in Ghana have obtained their travelling visas after securing cover letters from the Ministry of Sports.

The supporters presented their completed visa application forms and other vital documents in time to obtain their passes.

“I must say I am very impressed with the Ghanaian supporters, a lot of them have gotten their visas already,” Immigration Secretary and Civic Services of the South African High Commission, Jacqueline Kruger told reporters at a Ghana FA’s pre-Nations Cup seminar.

“We are still attending to some so I therefore urge others who intend travelling to South Africa to present their completed application forms and other requirements well in time for us to properly attend to them.”

The situation is a whole lot different from what prevailed in the last edition of the AFCON hosted in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

There, supporters and journalists were in a last minute scramble to obtain visas upon arrival since there was no Gabonese embassy in Ghana.

The boosted support will be crucial in propelling the Black Stars to Nations Cup glory in South Africa after 31-years of disappointment.
