Ghanaian winger Ishmael Yartey has returned to Switzerland to join Super League side FC Sion after ending his three month loan spell with Major League Soccer side Portland Timbers.

Sion decided against extending the loan deal for the 25-year-old to remain with Timbers until the end of the American season.

The former Ghana U17 starlet will join Sion for their pre-season campaign as the new Swiss season draws closer.

Yartey joined Timbers in late March on a three-month-loan spell to seek regular first team game time while the disagreement surrounding his contract between Sion and Sochaux is sorted out.

The former SL Benfica prospect made a total of 5 league appearances out of a possible 9, providing two assists.

Timbers expressed the desire to extend his loan spell until the end of the season but FC Sion President Christian Constantin refused to allow him stay till the end of the season, forcing him to return.

Yartey is under a disputed contract between Sion and French side Sochaux until 2017.

Portuguese side Rio Ave are interested in signing him on permanent basis.
