Maritzburg United are sweating over the fitness of Ghanaian winger Frank Sarfo Gyamfi ahead of their PSL clash against AmaZulu on Friday night.

The 19-year-old was taken off after 73 minutes after picking up an injury in the epic 3-2 win over Free State Stars on Wednesday.

The Ghanaian youth star was making only his first start of the season after struggling with injury and fitness issues.

Gyamfi who now appears to be returning to his best form for the Team of Choice is at risk of another break in momentum with his fresh injury concern.

Maritzburg United doctors are still assessing the injury ahead on Friday’s home game against AmaZulu.

"Yes, Frank is being assessed by the doctors,” the club’s commercial manager Younus Kadodia has revealed.

“He was injured against Free State Stars. Frank went to kick the ball and the other player came in with force with a studs-up challenge.

“He's being assessed to see if there's anything more than serious bruising.

“At this stage we are unsure he'll be ready to play against AmaZulu."

Gyamfi joined the PSL club in 2012 from Ghanaian Premier League club Wa All Stars.

The swift winger is however yet to replicate his consistent form in the South African top flight.
