Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Fatau played his first 90 minutes of football in the Spanish top-flight when his side Granada were beaten 2-0 by Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday.

The 21-year-old broke into the first team this season but injuries had restricted him to only two matches.

Against the giants, head coach decided to field in his first ever start in the Spanish Primera Division.

"Playing a game here is a dream. I never thought I would play in the Granada first team at the Bernabeu and also as a holding midfielder," Fatau said.

"I came from an injury and did not think he would play as a starter.

"I knew I was going to play this morning at the meeting at the hotel. When I heard, I had to be quiet, work, and do it very well."

"I was nervous during the warm-up but peers like Piti, Iturra and Recio told me 'Let's go, you can do it. They gave me strength to go into the game."

Fatau has been a regular player with the Granada reserve side where he is made 14 appearances this season.

"I do not care whether I play with the first team or the reserves. It's the same Granada team and I work for both teams," Fatau added.

"My friends have sent me messages to congratulate me."
