Ghanaians turn to God to get Michael Essien fit for World Cup

Over 3,000 Ghana football fans have launched serious prayers in church to pray for Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien to be fit for next month’s World Cup.

Fans in the West African country have been overly worried about the fitness of their key player for the tournament in South Africa.

In a country where football is almost like religion fans are willing to go the extra length to make their team successful.

The Chelsea star and other players of the national team look doubtful for the first World Cup to be held in Africa because of recent injuries.

But a huge number of supporters numbering over three thousand thronged the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, Ghana second biggest city, after an appeal was launched by a radio presenter Kwame Adinkra of Angel FM.

“I think it is prudent that we take the matter in prayer to God who has cure for all ailments,” Adinkra said.

The prayer session started at 6pm and ended at midnight with some of Kumasi’s well known preachers and church choirs in attendance.

Another massive prayer session is scheduled for Kumasi next month to pray for the success of Ghana and other African teams at the World Cup.

Essien has been out of action since he aggravated a knee injury at the African Cup of Nations in Angola in January.

Despite his injury coach Milovan Rajevac has named him in his 30-man provisional World Cup squad.
