Ghana’s Division One League chief Owuahene Acheampong fears the recent match-fixing scandal involving Techiman City and Wa African United could affect prospective sponsorship for the league.

City and United have applied for stay of execution after they were deomoted to the country’s second-tier after being found guilty of match-fixing.

The scandal has rocked the country’s second-tier with fears current title sponsors GN Bank could pull the plugs on their sponsorship package.

That fear has been heighetened by the chairman of the country’s second-tier division, who says the situation could affect their sponsorship drive.

“The match fixing scandal is sad but these things happen behind close doors. We have a confirmation of a fact finding judicial body that has come to say that yes indeed, there was a fixed match,” he told Acra-based Starr FM

“It makes our job a bit difficult to get more sponsors so we hope such incidents will not occur again so that potential sponsors will not be driven away.”

Ebusua Dwarfs and Dreams FC have confirmed their qualification to the top-flight with the winner of zone one yet to be decided.
