Nana Asare flourished in defence for Gent

Unsung Ghanaian defender Nana Akwasi Asare put up another impressive showing for KAA Gent as they edged Russian side Zenith St Petersberg to reach the last 16 of the Uefa Champions League. 

The 30-year-old workaholic defender lasted the entire duration of the game for the Belgian champions as they grabbed to the maximum points to finish second in Group H.

Gent finished the group with ten (10) and trailed winners Zenith by five (5) points.

The former FC Utrecht defender was involved in the sequence of play that produced the goal scored by Laurent Depoitre in the 18th minute at the KAA Gent Stadium.

Artem Dzyuba equalized for the visitors but Danijel Milicevic won the game for the host and secured their place in the round of 16.

Nana Asare is the second Ghanaian player to qualify for the next round of the competition on Wednesday after Black Stars defender Baba Rahman qualified with Chelsea.
