Ghana youth goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi had a debut to forget for French side Sochaux as they were defeated 3-1 by Valenciennes in the Coupe de la France round of 64 on Tuesday night.

Ati-Zigi, who joined the side from Austrian outfit FC Liefering, has played second fiddle for Maxene Prevot in the two league games played so far this season.

However, the 20-year-old was given the nod in the cup competition by coach Peter Zeidler and despite his heroics in post, they were overpowered by a strong Valenciennes side.

The hosts went ahead in the 10th minute via Steve Ambri before Jorres Romil quickly doubled their advantage three minutes later.

Ambri scored his second of the evening after beating the hapless Ati Zigi from his near post.

Sofianne Daham pulled a goal back for the visitors but they couldn't throw a late challenge to send the game into extra time as their dream of making an impact in this season's competition came to an end.
