Goalkeeper Dauda apologises for Ghana’s AFCON flop

Posted On Tuesday, 12th February 2013

Fatau Dauda wants fans to forgive the Black Stars for their Nations Cup failure

Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda wants fans to forgive them after their disappointing performance at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars could not better the fourth place finish chalked at the 2012 finals in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea with another fourth place feat.

The first choice gloves man and his teammates have been severely criticized by fans back home for their nondescript display in South Africa.

“We went into the competition with the intention of winning it, but only God know why we couldn’t,” the AshantiGold shot-stopper told Kumasi-based Fox FM

“I know that Ghanaians are very sad because of this and so I wish to apologise and I ask Ghanaians to forgive us.”

Dauda was one of Ghana’s best performers at the tournament as he convinced all and sundry about his goalkeeping exploits.

Dauda, there is nothing to apologies about the desaster in South Africa cos u stood to the occasion and we thank you for your performance. Even our defenders didn’t do that bad at all. The problem with this team is striker asap. Gyan is useless striker to win you a match. I think he has lost pace therefore you should be axe from the team immediately. We also want to thank GFA their part for making sure we won’t win any tounnement sooner.

Work on your timing esp on setpieces and this is very simple to do….. whenever u want to come out for the ball communicate with your teammates by screaming at them that u coming for the ball!!! This is very simple goalkeeping technique!!! During the afcon, your time was very poor and dangerous too!!! Viva the revolutionciooooooooo!!!

  3. Ansong says:

GFA MADE A BIG MISTAKE BY APPOINTING KUMASI COACH WHO DOESN’T HAVE UEFA COACHING LICENCE,NEVER COACH ANY CLUB,NEVER PLAY PRO ABROAD,TACTICALLY BLIND BUT HAD A NERVE TO SACK AYEW BROTHERS FROM THE BLACK STARS.WE SHOULD GET RID OF THIS GUY BEFORE IS TOO LATE.wise up

  4. Kweku Basabasa says:

Mr Dauda we are not sad simply because you failed to bring the cup home, but because most of us feel we played below par. Most ghanaians thought and still think we have a team to play a lot better that u did.Soccer fans around africa believe we were even lucky to get to the semis. As 4-time winners, we are expected to do better than getting humiliated by a “lowly” Cape Verde and having to rely on dubious penalties to win games. After our game against Burkina, the foreign stations I watch and listened to were basicallly laughing at us;how even with a refree’s blatant favour we still couldn’t manage pass Burkina.Frankly, you Fatau Dauda, are one of the few who impressed us and for that reason no need for apologies.Your coach though, needs to apologise because he is the one who failed the test, and if he remains the coach, then the Black Stars don’t have my support any more. There is not one thing he did that gives me any hope not one.

  8. Muky chipolopolo says:

Dauda, looks like the mad man who comes to ravage through my dustbin every wednesday morning wen i put them out 4 collection. Hey it could be him u know! The resemblence, shabby look, village idiot expression on his face, sun-burnt blackness, its very striking. So this mad man is a trump by day and a national team goalkeeper by night. Wow!

  9. Unknown says:

    He did a good job
