Great Olympics risk FIFA ban over Tom Strand appointment

Struggling Premier League side Great Olympics are in danger of being sanctioned by FIFA over the appointment of Swedish coach Tom Strand, GHANAsoccernet.com can report.

Olympics have signed a short-term contract with the 35-year-old to replace Godwin Attram.

However the club's decision to engage the Swedish without prior approval from Medeama could land the Accra-based side in serious trouble.

Strand left Medeama under shocking circumstances in May last year after he abandoned the team during a CAF Confederation Cup defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Mauve and Yellows have petitioned the Ghana FA over Strand's wrongful exit from the club, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

But in a shocking turn of event, Olympics have thrown caution into the wind to sign a short-term contract with the expatriate who still has a year left on his current contract with Medeama.

The murky situation means Olympics must fork out a staggering amount to Medeama as compensation to the Tarkwa-based side if they are to secure the services of the European tactician.

The two clubs could be set for a long-winding legal tussle with Medeama likely to hold the aces.

Olympics coach Godwin Attram has kicked against the appointment of Strand insisting he will resign if he is handed the job.

Strand returned to Ghana in February this year and signaled his intention to re-join Medeama but was unsuccessful after traveling to Tarkwa to hold showdown talks with the club.

GHANAsoccernet.com sleuth hounding indicate that Olympics are ready to buy him out of contract amid fears the move could prove counter-productive for a side which is struggling to pay salaries of players and officials.

Strand's pedigree has parachuted after he guided Medeama to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup last year.

He also supervised the revival of Bechem United three years ago in the Ghanaian top-flight where he honed the talent of Sudan-based Augustine Okrah.
