Guardiola cannot win Champions League at Man City with this defence - Redknapp

Harry Redknapp has questioned Manchester City ahead of Pep Guardiola's move to the Etihad Stadium.

The Spanish coach is the preeminent manager in world football right now but not even he can save City's glaring defensive issues if the backline is not improved in the summer.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and QPR boss Redknapp believes current Bayern Munich manager Guardiola will struggle to guide City to glory if he does not have the right players, particularly those in defence, at his disposal.

"The game is about great players rather than great managers," he told BT Sport.

"Jurgen Klopp has come into Liverpool, but they are still ninth in the league because the players aren't good enough.

"Guardiola can go to Man City and unless he gets some good defenders in, he isn't going to win the Champions League, I don't care who he is."

City's central defensive stocks currently consist of injured captain Vincent Kompany, ageing Argentine Martin Demichelis, the adjusting Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala who is still yet to prove his worth at the Etihad.
