Gyan boosts World Cup hopes with return

In-form Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan has returned to action after nearly three weeks on the sidelines in the French top flight league.

The 24-year-old was in action for his club Rennes as they lost 2-1 in their home game against Sochaux on Sunday.

He was very active during the game and showed no signs of being rusty after spending nearly three weeks on the treatment table.

His best chance came when Les Rouge et Noir thought they had levelled 15 minutes from time, but Gyan’s header was disallowed due to an offside infringement.

This means he has returned to full fitness and should he avoid injury before the World Cup he will be key for Ghana at the tournament in June.

Gyan, who aggravated an old injury last week, was prevented him from playing in their clash with Paris Saint Germain because of the setback.

The striker was also hamstrung a three weeks ago and sat out during that weekend's French Ligue 1 match.

His 13 goals this term makes him the third joint top scorer in the French top-flight.
