Asamoah Gyan hit a brace to save Ghana

Asamoah Gyan cemented his superstar status for Ghana as he scored both goals to help the Black Stars rally from two goals down to hold Turkey to a 2-2 draw in Istanbul on Wednesday night.

The Black Stars found themselves two goals down within the first 28 minutes of the game with the deadly striking duo of Burak Yilmaz and Umut Bulut causing all the havoc.

Yilmaz opened the scoring in the 7th minute as he capitalized on a defensive mishap to score with a composed finish.

His Galatasaray strike partner Bulut got in on the act by heading in from a well orchestrated move in the 28th minute.

The Ghana defence at this time was saddled with errors while struggling to create anything going forward.

The Black Stars were even lucky not to have conceded more as the game went into recess with the Turkish well on top.

Coach Akwasi Appiah rang some changes at the restart – bringing on danger man Asamoah Gyan and Razak Braimah to replace Christian Atsu and Adam Kwarasey respectively.

Dominic Adiyiah came close to halving the deficit but his ferociously struck shot cannoned off the post – much to the agonizing look of coach Akwasi Appiah on the sidelines.

The Ghana game improved instantly as the team looked more purposeful going forward while beginning to shut the door at the rear but it was to get better.

Appiah a few minutes later threw in Kwadwo Asamoah and Daniel Opare for Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu and Samuel Inkoom respectively right at the time Ghana was at its threatening best upfront.

Ghana’s sustained pressure yielded results as Asamoah Gyan picked up a long throw from goalkeeper Razak Braimah, cut in from the left to slot in at the near post to bring the Black Stars back into the game in the 61st minute.

The Al Ain ace wasn’t done as he rose highest to head in a sweet Daniel Opare cross 14 minutes later to complete a well-deserved comeback for the Black Stars.

Striker Mahatma Otoo who had earlier been brought on for Dominic Adiyiah alongside Yusif Rahman Chibsah had two chances in quick succession but failed to find the desired target.

The Ghana team had fully stabilized and was beginning to dictate the pace with Kwadwo Asamoah pulling all the strings in midfield.

Both sides however looked to have run out of steam as the game gradually grinded to the end with a significant drop in tempo.

Opare is the best guy for the right back….Inkoom and Adiya are waste…

  3. truth says:

please Akwasi Appiah, on behalf of all concerned Black Stars supporters,
    Solomon Asante
    Adiyiah
    Nkoom
are not black Star materials so please spare us the agony.Whatever amount you receive from the trio we will reimburse you every time you drop them

    • texas says:

I agree with you “truth” about Solomon Asante,
Adiyiah, and Nkoom do not having the form for Black Stars at the moment…but please you guys should leave out these bribe allegations out! for Asante my concern is his size….his size is too small for international football. I think players height should be a factor when calling players into all of Ghana national teams especially the Black Stars..

      • cyriuse says:

        what about leo messi ?

      • anokwale says:

Height is a factor. You can get away with being short if you are significantly faster than your opponent. Messi is great because he is a rare specimen. He is faster than most opponents; even with the ball. Unfortunately, Asante, Adiyah and Inkoom are talented but not that fast. If they demonstrated significant power maybe they could compensate. I think they can be called in games against weaker African sides that are not that big. Those three have had their games with the Black Stars. It is time to thank them for their service and move forward.

Ayew brothers,KPB,Essien and Quincy will strengthen Ghana team….

  5. truth says:

Solomon Asante did not complete a single successful dribble
For Nkoom the early he switches clubs or returns home to revive his career the better.
It is obvious why Agyeman Badu is struggling for first team place
For Adiyiah we better save our energy cos it is shocking to realise all our hopes and prayers for his success seem to have been a waste. Is time he reconsiders his position as a striker and opt for a winger or sth else

Rum ghanains like kwame adu is tryn to comfort himsele in the live update thread by writtin that zambia struggled and ghana toyed with the turkey team. My broda lies dont bring peace to the mind. Zambia with the players u guys diss held an all europeam senegalise team. Sunzu mulenga(watchout) mayuka kalaba and sinkala gave the senegalis a terrhd time such that their coach almost changed the entire team at half time, 8 subs in total, while zambia only made 4 subs 2 due to injuries. The excuse that ghana used a b team cant be accepted. Y didnt u guys say so b4 the game. Sunzu is bak gyan wont have easy

  7. carruthersman says:

oh my goodness, What is wrong with Adam Kwarasey?
The first goal against him today is exactly like the goals we lost against Zambia in CAN 2012,and Brazil in our friendly we last played. You can checked the goals from youtube.
Infact, I don’t want the coach to play him against Zambia. I’m pretty sure the coach won’t even put him there, b’cos if he is put in the net, he will definitely concede a goal.

all the subs had direct impact on the game and result. it tells u these benchwarmers appiah prefers against established regulars like warris, opare, even otoo do not deserve their place. i jux don’t knw wat appiah sees in adiyiah dat i’m missing. kid has already reached his peak and dat was youth level surrounded by quality players led by ayew. he has nothing more to offer than to go downhill. where is all this favoritism coming frm? its jux not fair to the others who hv justified themselves with their clubs. it may seem harsh to adiyiah but is the painful truth. he is not more ghanaian dan the others. but for asante, i think people shd bear with him cos i actually see something in him. if he had bn given the many opportunities adiyiah has had, i believe we wud hv seen sumtn exceptional. adiyiah doesn’t even hv the stature for a striker. he is quite short and is not even strong. appiah, i’m starting to believe these unsubstantiated bribery allegations. hmmmm.

  11. selfmade says:

How many favors, opportunities should we give to adiyiah before he grab it!!!!????? Quincy ll make a huge impact if given the chances that has been given to adiyiah!!!!!!! If appiah loves him so much, turn him into a winger n lets see!!!

  12. alfred mc-kenzie says:

I still don’t know why appiah keeps giving inkoom and ahdiyah,if the chances that he appiah has been giving to inkoom and adiyah, a quarter has been giving to mahattma, saka or opare they would have prove themselves long time ago!if appiah calls adiyah and inkoom again then it means he get’s something from them but let’s give him the benifit of the though!

  13. GH Panther says:

i’ve noticed since ghana2008, we’ve never really had all our players together at one tournament. in 2010 afcon and worldcup, it was a developmental team majority frm 2009 u20 squad, even kpb was new. 2012, kpb, essien, … out. 2013, worse, ayews out of squad due to a simple issue whiles others still in retirement.if only we can get our full squad to promote some consistency, even the worldcup will not be far frm reach. with wats still going on, u can’t even predict the squad for brazil2014 when we qualify. another new look ghana side? and u complain when u repeatedly lose semis and finals? smh.

    • Viper says:

Thats what being plaguing Ghana football and the very reason why some idiots think, they are on par with Ghana…a full strength Ghana will be unbeatable in Africa but for some reason at the FA, we can’t seem to put our best side together.

  14. lukman says:

    Call Samuel afum

  15. Nii Kwatei says:

Ghpanter, you’re so right. Why do we always play with a third tier Black Stars?
Inkoom has been a permanent bencher for almost two years now. Since 2009, Adiyiah scored only 5 goals with all his clubs. That´s 1 goal a year! Is it really necessary to call up players like these? Im starting to lose faith in Appiah. He has no vision whatsoever..

  16. VmenUSA says:

Now baby jet has 9 goals in 10 matches this year, ( 37 all time) ????????????

  17. PACMAN says:

When I started questioning AA for this selections. Most especially abt the inclusion of Adiyiah, incoom,Asante and so on.Some pple who claim to be AA’s sympathizers came to this site and started insulting me.
Now I know u’ve all learn’t something from this biased selection.

    • Tetteyfio says:

This is a friendly match to test some players. AA knows who are good and who are not

    • anokwale says:

This was a very useful friendly. We now see that Appiah was able to keep the team positive after a horrible start. He also made the timely substitutions that made the difference. Now we know who we can drop and who we can keep. In fact, this game should silence the critics.

  18. Prince says:

please, can someone lecture me on this;does the coach has any personal relationship with solomon asante guy?

  19. Obi says:

Let’s be patient. The coach wants to build a team with depth. We know who our players/starters are. The trick is to have competent players behind them. Nothing worse than scrambling to find suitable replacements when some body goes down right before a crucial game or tournament. The coach is trying to find players he can count on. Every time Brazil has won the WC in recent times, they’ve had a deep team with replaceable parts. We’ll be fine. Zambia is already full of false confidence. They’ll meet the real Black Stars and run away with their tail between their legs.

  20. Jay-Jay 10: says:

Gayna is FINISHED!!!! Can’t beat turkey, sweating to get a draw, Flukes…..hahahahahahaha

  21. alfred mc-kenzie says:

selection to the national team is not based on merit…some are call there so as to convince other teams in africa to purchase them.we were in Ghana when ben acheampong who has then scored only 4goals in as many matches in the glo premier league as the lead striker for kotoko was called to the black stars at the expense of emanuel baffour[then with edubiase] and yakubu mohammed[then with ashgold] when they have scored more than ten goals in each in as many matches all because a certain gfa president has recommended he acheampong to an angolan team, another case is that of yaw frimpong who was also called to the black stars at a time every body in this country knows that godfred saka was playing far better than him..again frimpong was called because a certain gfa president has recommended him to tp mazembe of dr.congo, same thing happened in the case of nathaniel asamoah and awal mohammed so I know for sure that there is something behind the continous calling of adiyah and inkoom to the black stars despite the fact that they are not having playing times even in ukraine.@ghpartner,let akwasi appiah give the same chances to opare and mahattma otoo just like he has been giving adiyah and inkoom and let’s see what happens!

  22. AL-AIN FC says:

Well done gyan!!!, keep up the great form for Ghana and Alain :)
