Video: Asamoah Gyan scores again as Al Ain maintain lead

Published on: 24 March 2012

Striker Asamoah Gyan scored a second penalty in succession to help Al Ain maintain their position at the summit of the UAE Pro League.

Yasser Al Qahtani bagged a second-half brace and substitute Abdulaziz Fayez the other as Al Ain maintained their seven-point with a 4-1 win over 10-man relegation battlers Sharjah.

Gyan opened the scoring after eight minutes by converting a spot-kick with ease.

UAE midfielder Omar Abdulrahman found Ignacio Scocco with a looping ball on the edge of the box, but after working it deftly around Sharjah goalkeeper Hassan Al Sharif, the Argentine let his foot latch on to Al Sharif’s outstretched hand.

His tumble earned the penalty, which Gyan put away neatly to score his 13th league goal.

Marcelinho made himself available in the right place at the right time in the 58th to nod home Edinho’s shot on goal which had bounced off an Al Ain player.

Al Ain won the lead back in the next minute, Al Qahtani heading home from close range and nine minutes later the Saudi striker bagged a second poking home from just out after Gyan rolled it to him along the ground.

Substitute Fayez made it 4-1 deep in injury time with a stinging drive that beat Al Sharif.
