Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has dropped to the Al Ain bench for their Asian Champions League game against Al Hilal on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old striker played his first game for the UAE champions upon his return from the 2013 Nations Cup in last week’s shocking 1-0 defeat to Dibba Al Fujairah.

The Pro League top scorer who is still easing his way back to club football after a rigorous tournament in South Africa will now start from the bench in the Boss’ opening continental campaign.

Gyan appears to have been given a rare rest by manager Cosmin Olariou with the weekend’s top of the league clash against Al Jazira fast approaching.

The former Sunderland hitman still leads the goalscoring chart in the UAE with 21 goals despite being away for six weeks on international duty.

He is chasing a second successive league and goal king triumph in just his second season in the UAE Pro League.
