Hearts Board Chairman Togbe Afede XIV: Hearts of Oak do not make money from player transfers

Published on: 26 November 2015

Board Chairman of Accra Hearts of Oak, Togbe Afede XIV says the club has not been making money as many people perceive, insisting the last time the club made some money from player transfer was in 2012.

The Paramount Chief of Asorgli Traditional Area added that the club has always been draining him without giving anything back since taking over the managerial aspect of the former Ghana champions.

Togbe Afede was however explicit in saying that the transfer of Mahatma Otoo in 2012 is the only transfer that has fetched the club something.

The 2012 Ghana goal king was transferred to Songdal in Norway for an undisclosed fee and the Board Chairman insists that was the only bargain worth it in the history of his reign.

Speaking at the Annual General Meeting of the Board Members of the club, the soft-spoken Togbe Afede XIV said “The last time we made money from transfers was three years ago when we sold Mahatma Otoo,”.

“We have since not been able to transfer any other player to get something into the club and that must tell us something. We can’t continue like that,” he added.

The Board Chairman noted that since the appointment of CK Akonnor, David Duncan and Herbert Addo as coaches of the club, they have always been buying players without transferring any for gains.

Hearts of Oak have signed a total on thirty-two players under the three coaches.
