Hearts coach Akunnor hails five-star display

Hearts of Oak coach C K Akunnor has praised his side's effort in their 5-2 drubbing of New Edubiase United in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

The Phobians produced a stunning performance to trounce the Bekwai-based side as striker Mahatma Otoo hit the first hat-trick of the season.

Akunnor's men had to resist a stubborn Edubiase fight-back to book their first win of the season at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Defender Godwin Osei Bonsu and Mahatma Otoo scored in the last six minutes of the first half to put Hearts 2-0 up.

But Edubiase returned from the recess to equalise all two goals through Adam Basit and Bernard Ofori.

Captain Otoo completed his treble by scoring twice before new signing Nuru Sulley scored the fifth on the stroke of full-time.

Akunnor expressed satisfaction with his side's play after their drawing in their opener.

"Hearts is a strong side; they possess the ball very well and we didn't want Edubiase to play their normal game," he said in the post-match interview.

"Whether we would score five goals I wouldn't be able to tell you before the match. We manage to win and we are happy that is it."

Hearts are now in second on the Ghana Premier League table; two points behind leaders Medeama.
