Hearts defeat Kotoko in Ghana's biggest game

Hearts of Oak defeated arch rivals Asante Kotoko 1-0 in Kumasi on Sunday in Ghana’s biggest game of the season despite having two goals disallowed.

Douglas Nkrumah scored from the spot to hand Hearts the spoils against their bitter rivals which summed up humiliation for the Porcupine Warriors because it was a home defeat.

The win sends the Phobians to third on the table as Kotoko drop out of the top four.

Just like other meetings between both sides, the game at the Baba Yara Stadium did not pass without a drama as the Phobians had two goals disallowed and penalty appeals waved on by referee Cecil Fletcher.

However, it was a victory well deserved as Paa Kwesi Fabin's side looked the better of the two teams.

Kotoko did threaten in the first half but the substitution of striker Alex Asamoah seemed to have robbed them off any potency up front in the physically charged game.

A second half penalty awarded after a Kotoko defender blocked the ball was the game's defining moment as Nkrumah stepped up to fire past goalkeeper Isaac Amoako who had kept the Porcupine Warriors in the game all along.

Mighty Jets beat Real Tamale United 1-0 at the Ohene Djan Stadium to move out of the relegation zone as Telat Uzum's side rather slump to the bottom of the table.

In Wa, All Stars returned to winning ways, beating Aduana Stars 1-0 courtesy a first half strike by Safo Gyamfi.

Bechem Chelsea went on level points at the top with Kessben FC, who play again on Monday after their game against Heart of Lions was rained off in Kpando.

Chelsea posted a 2-0 win over B.A Stars at the Golden City Park to go joint-top.

Black Stars striker Emmanuel Clottey put Chelsea ahead in the 23rd minute before Bismark Idan added the second on 66 minutes.

Abdul Wahab was the solitary name on the score sheet for King Faisal as they managed to edge past Liberty Professionals 1-0.

Ebusua Dwarfs and New Edubiase shared the spoils, playing out a 1-1 draw at the Robert Mensah Stadium.

Bismark Asiedu put Dwarfs in the lead but Nuhu Fuseini equalized for the visitors.

AshantiGold and Berekum Arsenals shared the spoils in their 1-1 draw at the Len Clay Stadium.
