Hearts dismisses 4-match ban for Laryea Kingston

Hearts of Oak have dismissed reports that midfielder Laryea Kingston will  suffer a 4-match ban for attracting the red card during their league game against Asante Kotoko.

General Manager Mr. Ashford Tettey Oku explained away while dismissing the claim that per the GFA letter of GFA/PLB/Vol. 1 of 18th April 2012, the player was expelled for SERIOUS FOUL PLAY.

He explained that under Act 39 (6ii) a player sent off the field for serious foul play attracts a 2-match ban, including the match he was sent off in plus GH150 (Ghana Cedis) payable within 14 days.

Mr. Tettey Oku disabused the minds of Hearts fans on comments by a section of the media that, because it was a straight red card or direct or direct expulsion it might be likened to violent conduct and by extension 4 matches.

In his opinion it would have been violent conduct if Laryea Kingston had deliberately kicked, stamped or hit the Kotoko player if there was no action with the ball around.

Asked what Hearts would have done if it had turned out to be what the media speculated the General Manager said, Hearts would surely have contested to have it overturned.

Again, on whether referee Modey was right in the first place since the playback showed the player over-dramatized to attract the referee's sympathy and, in effect, confirm pre-match prediction that either Kingston or Mahatma Otoo will be red-carded to make things easier for Kotoko.

He said he was not clothed with the jurisdiction to question the referee's judgment.

Mr. Tettey Oku said, the referee had the power to take decisions and exercise appropriate discretions, so if that was how he saw it, so be it. "After all he again thought it otherwise when Mahatma was fouled in the 18 yard box when he had only the goalkeeper to beat in an incident, just before he scored from the free kick", he concluded.
