Hearts midfielder Malik Akowuah has encouraged his colleagues to use their 1-0 win over Kotoko as a springboard for further success in the season.

The Phobians recorded the controversial win over their sworn rivals to move up the standings.

Defender Vincent Atinga stepped up to convert an 84th minute penalty to hand Hearts their first win over Kotoko in Accra in eight years.

"I can say that we were determined for the victory after all the promises given to us by management and that gave us the edge over our counterparts," he told state-owned Graphic Sports.

"We have a lot to prove in our subsequent matches if we are to challenge for the league title at the end of the season and I want to warn my colleagues against being complacen."
