Tema Youth president Winfred Osei believes Hearts of Oak’s relegation battle is an index in measuring the competitiveness of this season’s Ghana Premier League.
For many, the Ghana top-flight has lost its competitive edge and the diminishing crowds at league centers has nourished this assertion.
But Osei, who doubles as a Ghana FA Executive Committee member, disagrees.
Speaking to GHANAsoccernet.com, Osei noted that: "For the first time in the history of our league, we are left with our last two matches to determine who wins the league. Is that not clear enough to tell us the league is competitive? Until this year, we could have seasons where the first round alone makes a club a run away winner.â€
He added that: "Look, Asante Kotoko had to play their 27th week encounter to be able to break onto the top four. We are left with two matches to go and Hearts of Oak are 15th on the table and you think that is not competition? If these are not indicators, them I don't know how to explain it again.
"Hearts' current position must tell us all that the league is not just competitive but highly competitive."
Hearts of Oak are left with their last two matches against Berekum Chelsea and WAFA to determine whether they remain as Premier League club or evicted to the Division One League after 13 September.
