Hearts of Oak have watered down claims by former coach Mohammed Polo that he was frustrated by insiders during his tenure.

Polo had a short spell and was relieved of his post after the end of the season when he guided the team to a third place finish.

He claimed he could have done better had he received enough support from the club but Hearts say their legend received the best to excel.

A statement read: "If the Management of Accra Hearts of Oak can be accused of anything, it can only be the unwavering support we offered Coach Polo, insisting that he had stepped into the job at a difficult moment and, therefore, did not deserve the attacks by a section of our fans and the media.

"We have lost count of the press statements Management issued in the course of the season to affirm its commitment to supporting the beleaguered Coach Polo through his tenure. Indeed, the then Managing Director, Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe and the Hearts Board Chairman were singled out by critics as inveterate backers of a Coach they (the critics) believed to be underperforming.

"Coach Polo had the misfortune of playing his first four matches away from home because of a home ban. His problems were compounded by a spate of injuries to a host of senior players coupled with a series of hostile officiating.

"Recognising these adverse factors, Management decided to give Coach Polo all the support he needed. We therefore find Coach Polo’s accusations very unfortunate and misplaced.

"The story also made reference to Boardroom wrangling and player revolt. The Hearts Board, made up of highly successful lady and gentlemen with distinguished careers in public service and the corporate world, is arguably the most vibrant among Ghana’s league clubs.

"They have never been reduced to bickering among themselves, and no such thing has ever been reported about them."
